Pofi: Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor Amputation

Sep 10

Today, the 10th of September, is our 28th wedding anniversary and it is a few days past Pofi’s 4 month Ampuversary (the 4th) and a few before his 12th birthday (the 15th, give or take a day).

And so, we celebrated today, how else, but with a trip to the Airport Dog Park.  There are days when I worry because Pofi does not seem to want to walk on leash and seems to get tired quickly doing it.  But I really am starting to believe that is because I slow him down and he can’t leverage momentum to his advantage the way he can off leash.  Today we were at the park for an hour and he barely stopped to rest.  Just twice in all that time did he take a bit of a break.

So the celebration for Pofi involved some splashing in reedy Mother Lake, of course:

And a little relaxation after that:

September 10 - four months post amp and Pofi enjoyed the moderate temps and romped for a long time before taking a break.

With sissy Mia, of course:

Pofi having a great day and has just been splashing in the lake, but takes a break in the shade while Mia fetches the ball.

And Mia had fun, as well.  Smiling dogs all around:

Mia was delighted her new BFF, Liz, met us there.

Will post later this week when we celebrate his Terrific Twelve!

I am glad you enjoyed yourself at the park. You are right a lot of times we slow down our babies with our gait. <3 <3 <3

Thanks, M! We are so fortunate to have such great, wide open off leash space for him. For both of them, of course, but the joy of seeing him romp easily compared to the on leash is very special!

WE HEREBY DECLARE THE ENTIRE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER…POFI MONTH!!

So many exciting things happened that month…your humans are having an anniversary (congratulations), you got rid of that bum leg AND…A STAR WAS BORN AND HIS NAME IS POFI! 🙂

This is such a great update. The pictures are wonderful! Pofi just takes my breath away with his unique handsomeness! And Mia’s a beauty too!

I had to chuckle seeing Pofi so thoroughly enjoying himself in the cool water. His thought bubble had to be something like,”Ha, ha, not gonna put that leash on me now!”

I think you are exactly right about the leash interfering with his pace, his forward momentum. That in itself can be exhausting. He certainly looks like he’s doing just fine in his lake!!

Pofi is happy and that’s what it’s all about!! And that makes us all happy!

Now let’s get this pawty started and celebrate Pofi and all his specialness!!

    Lots and lots of love!!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

He is doing great! And happy anniversary to you as well! Tripawds do better at speed. At times, I was jogging along with Otis, just so he could keep up his desired pace. Maybe Pofi is trying to tell you more dog park, less leash?

Thanks. And I think you might be correct that more off leash dog park time is in order!

    Happy everything!
What a great park and looks like a wonderful day.
Tripawds really do need to go fast, and we do slow them down. Elly gives me the eye quite often on our morning walks…’come on Mom, let’s move!’

Thank you, Karen! Really helps to hear others have the same experience of their tripawds doing better when they can go faster. And I suppose walking faster might be good for me, too, LOL.
